It’s nothing short of mind-boggling when one thinks of how many Doctor Who artifacts one might find collecting dust in people’s attics, just waiting to be put up for sale. The latest collection of Who paraphernalia to succumb to this fate was purchased Sunday at the Angels Film Costume Auction hosted by the Cameo Fine Art Auctioneers, and included, among other Doctor Who costume bits, the shoes worn by Tom Baker!
A spokesperson from Cameo gave us the scoop on how much each item sold for, revealing that the lucky bidder who bought the ability to walk around like our beloved Fourth Doctor did so for a mere £300! While this number was at the high end of the shoes’ initial estimated bid of £200 to £300, there are likely plenty of diehard Who fans who would pay, at the very least, twice as much for these two pieces of television history.
Other particularly recognizeable lots on the list consisted of a knight’s cape from 1965′s The Crusade, which also went for £300, and Peter Davison’s waistcoat from Planet of Fire. This, the most expensive Who treasure sold at the event, was auctioned away for a massive £1000!
The bids from the Doctor Who collection also included James Maxwell’s beige suit from 1978′s Underworld, sold for £100; a dress from 1989′s Battlefield worn by the character Morgaine (Jean Marsh), taken for £160; and a yellow striped jacket from 1987′s Delta and the Bannermen, which had a final price of £280, despite the fact that the name of the character who sported it was not provided.
For pictures of each lot, and for more information about the Cameo Auctioneers, feel free to have a look here. Who knows, maybe you’ll even walk away with a Doctor collectible of your own if and when they decide to place another wave of items from the BBC’s best programme up for sale!
